Have you ever been booed?

When I first heard of this fun Halloween tradition I absolutely loved it – it’s such a great way to get both young kids and adults involved in Halloween activities. It’s the perfect combination of both tricks and treats!

The concept is simple: you secretly leave a basket or bag of treats on a friend or neighbor’s porch with a boo sign attached. The person you have booed puts a sign in their window so they don’t get booed twice, and then they create a basket or treat bag for someone else. Skip the gift tag – part of the fun is guessing who BOO’d you!

You can leave boo baskets or boo bags throughout the month of October. They don’t need to be fancy or expensive, it’s totally up to you what you’d like to do.

If you get boo’d, keep it going! It’s so much fun to see how far the boo baskets go. Eventually every window in the the whole neighborhood will have a “we’ve been booed” sign!

These are great traditions to start with your neighbors, especially if you are still getting to know each other. Giving boo gifts are a fun way to connect with those around you.

What to put in a boo basket

However you choose to deliver your Halloween surprise is up to you – either a basket or treat bags are acceptable! You can really decide how fancy or basic you’d like to be. The fun thing is being surprised with a little bag of goodies not knowing who did it.

Candy, small treats, craft items, or small toys (think spider rings, Halloween pencils, bouncy balls, etc.) are the perfect way to spread some Halloween cheer. Homemade treats and cookies are also a great addition to any gift basket.

Your local dollar store or dollar tree is a great place to stock up on Halloween goodies. You can spend just $5-10 on a basket or goodie bag full of Halloween fun.

You can also purchase a fully assembled basket of Halloween treats from Etsy. You’ll pay a little more for them, but then you can keep the fun tradition going without any effort.
